Ushiku
Daibutsu (The Great Image of Amida Buddha): USHIKU DAIBUTSU has been
authorized as the tallest statue in the world since 1995.The figure of
Buddha, overlaid with 6mm thick plates of bronze, is 100m tall and stands
upon a base pedestal and lotus platform, each 10m high. So, its total
height is 120m from the ground. The monument is, e.g., three times taller
and thirty times larger in volume than the Statue of Liberty. More than
6000 plates were required to overlay the body of the statue, and each
plate formed the complex configuration. One can take an elevator to the
fifth floor, 85m high on the ground, and have a look round over.
Chateau Kamiya
: The first full-scale winery in Japan, Chateau Kamiya, was built in 1903
by Denbei Kamiya. He left Japan for France to undergo training and
acquired techniques in wine making and as such was able to produce wine
that was appealing to the Japanese people by removing bitter taste and
making it sweet.
The exhibition building currently houses wine barrels and tools used for
wine production.
(B)Kasama Sightseeing

flourishing business.
Craft hills KASAMA :
The
Ceramic Arts Museum displays the work of many famous potters. The
shape, texture and color of each piece reflect each artist’s esthetic
sensibility.
(C)Mt. Tsukuba

Tour Highlights;
Mt.Tsukuba : Although the altitude is a mere 876 m, its beautiful form is
conspicuous since it is the only protuberance on the plain. It has long
received acclaim as being comparable to Mt.Fuji. The summit, consisting of
Mt.Nantai and Mt.Nyotai, provides a magnificent view of the Kanto Plain.
The top can be reached either by cable car from Tsukubasan Shrine at the
southern foot of the mountain or by ropeway from Tsutsujigaoka at the
southeastern foot.
Tsukubasan Shrine
is dedicated to an important god and goddess in Shinto mythology and
the guardian gods of Mt. Tsukuba. The buildings are excellent examples of
Japanese shrine architecture.
