Title : Exploring Oberon/Component Pascal as an algorithm design and
        software development platform for computations in physics

Abstract : 
Within the framework of the international initiative Efficient
Programming for Sciences and Engineering in the 21st Century (EPSE-21
<the title is still tentative --FT 2003-07-28>), a comparison of the
programming languages Component Pascal, FORTRAN and C++ is presented
based on a realistic and non-trivial algorithm for HEP calculations (the
Optimal Jet Finder, hep-ph/0301185).  The evidence confirms that
Oberon/Component Pascal as a software development platform is
competitive to the other languages in regard of efficiency for numerical
applications while being vastly superior for exploratory algorithm
design work and for the increasingly important class of calculational
algorithms where both numerical efficiency and flexibility of dynamical
data structures are crucial.
