Our concept is to provide a coherent desktop-like environment where independent services integrate into a coherent, easy-to-use and powerful "studio". The design strategy is to make every service available in every context where it is needed. The prototype environment builds on the existing IGUANA GUI and visualisation toolkit, adding tools for interactive scripting and even queries and wizards for many common tasks. We present a number of such tools currently under development for CMS' 100-terabyte-scale data challenge in spring 2004. We describe how such modules are developed independently and integrated into a seamless desktop environment. We present how exploration tools such as meta data browsers can be made available in many different contexts without building excessive inter-module dependencies on them.
