Automation&Tools Session Astract

G.Dodson, K.Furukawa

Advanced software applications are used to set-up, model, tune, monitor and help diagnose off-normal conditions in accelerator systems. Similar applications are used for Accelerator Physics studies and training. Speakers will attempt to answer some or all of the following questions:

- What platform do you use for software applications? (XAL, Jython¡¦.)
- Do you have any automation or tools specific to machine start-up and shut-down?
- What fraction of your accelerator set-up is application code based?
  ¡°Golden Save-set¡± save and restore
- What fraction of your tuning is automated?
How do you determine if automated routines are converging on the proper tune or are ¡°lost¡±?
- Do you have an on-line, real-time model of the accelerator?
How close to the model do you operate the accelerator?
Do you use it to ¡°test¡± tune changes before implementing them?
- What is the development process for an application code?
  How were the requirements developed?
What input does operations have in defining the requirements?
What group was in charge of the development?
  How is the application tested?
  How is version control done?
  Is version rollback seamless?
When does it stop being a ¡°development¡± and become a tool for Operations?
- Other than software set-up, modeling, tuning, monitoring and diagnosis, what other Automation and Tools do you use?
  Video Conferencing
  Advanced Communications
- RSS feeds of accelerator performance
  Integrated Logbook/Work Control/Beam Accounting applications
Wiki/SharePoint for Group to Group or Intergroup informal communication.
  Commercial (OTS) Software systems
