We recommend that you take the "Airport Liner NATT's" bus from
the Narita Airport to "Tsukuba center" (the central bus terminal
in Tsukuba), then take a local bus or taxi.
Here are some more instructions:
At the airport, you should not have a problem getting information in English.
There are two bus ticket counters: the correct one is "Keisei bus",
the other one is "Airport Limousine".
At Tsukuba center, the bus to KEK leaves from the bus terminal number 1
(the closest one to where you get off the bus from the airport). The destination
is written only in Japanese, but each route is numbered: take one of 18,
C8, C8A, or 71, not anything else. The bus driver won't speak English,
but it should be fairly easy to find somebody speaking English around the
Tsukuba-center bus terminal. Where to get off will be the most difficult
part, and you need some more help.
Inside the bus, there is a bus-fare display behind the driver. You can
watch the bus-fare (first one if you don't have a tag for the buses that
starts at Tsukuba-center, or that matches with your tag) approaching 430
yen (or could be slightly different for some routes), or measure the time
you are on the bus (13 to 16 minutes depending on the route). When the
bus is about 1.5 km from KEK, you will see a McDonald's on the left, a
large hospital on the left, pass a gas station (ESSO), and a wooded area
with no shops around. As soon as you pass the gas station, press the button
to get off the bus. You will pass the KEK gate on the left, and the bus
will stop a few meters further.
